Now there's a rare sound, although it's more common in Revan than it ever was in the Wasteland: Max is excited about something. He comes bounding over to the sausage truck, his expression bright and eager, practically bouncing on the balls of his feet. If he realised how young he looks right now, he'd be mortified and tone it down, but fortunately for everyone else's amusement, he doesn't.
For all Danse might have groused about the convoy's unusually large population of rowdy teenagers back when there were more of them, he's come to miss the ones who disappeared more than he thought he would.
Not so much them specifically, not having known them well enough--but the way they'd had fun with things feels like something to reminisce about now, rather than complain about their loud music and lack of discipline the way he had at the time. So many others here just seem to loathe this place and the forced journey too much to find any pleasure along the way at all.
Danse might not know Maximus well enough yet to have a baseline sense of how often or not he gets excited about things, but that doesn't detract from how nice it is to see him this happy about something now. The whole convoy could use more of that.
"Something positive, I take it? You look like you've just found a warehouse full of fusion cores. Lay it on me."
Max would be both amused and vaguely offended to know he's been mentally lumped in as a teenager. Excuse you, sir, he is a grown ass man of at least twenty years old! Not a teenager anymore! A full Knight of the Brotherhood!
... which he admittedly got by behaving very much like a bratty teenager, but shush, Danse doesn't need to know that! Max wants Danse to think well of him and learning how Max actually became a Knight wouldn't do that.
"Yes!" Max comes to a halt in front of Danse, nearly vibrating with joy. "My power armour! I have it back!"
